He looks too much like Sora from Kingdom Hearts. "I'm going to be the best X of all!" is a one dimensional goal. Too many video game conventions. Video games do not always equal good narrative form.

Video games do not always equal good narrative form. The "i'm gonna be the best" is a convention of many shonen manga, not only videogame. We try to use a simple concept (one that usually works) and then play with it as story advances.
