[[So, what led Shichi to become a monk?]]

Reponse:

Hey there, good to hear from you! His biggest reason for choosing a monastic life was the pursuit of knowledge. There is only so much one can learn in a village, where in temples they learn to read, write, study scripture and history, and push a variety of skills. The wisest minds can usually be found in temples, so if one desired to learn more than the basics of village life, it would almost be a requirement.

The other reason was that he felt drawn towards the spiritual teachings of the temple. He is naturally empathetic and, as a child, would stop the other children from hurting animals (or sometimes each other). The ideals of humility, kindness, awareness, and helping (and of course not harming) others all appeal to him greatly.

Sometimes in the story he is pretty much the worst monk ever, but he does his best to uphold the values that are most important.

askkakuro :
We know that Shichi's monastery is one example of how the Tengu live, but are there others out there?

Reponse:

Thanks for asking, and for your interest!

There are definitely others out there! Most tengu live in villages. These are always in the mountains, and if possible, built up into tall trees. There are also several temples (also in mountains) built throughout the four islands.

Sometimes there will be individuals that crave travel or don’t fit in, and these will wander the countryside or take to larger cities. I haven’t really mentioned this, but in this particular timeline yokai are common and can occasionally integrate into society. Small human towns are extremely resistant to this, sometimes going as far as killing yokai on sight (like Kana’s lovely village). Big cities, however, tend to grudgingly accept their presence.

Okay well, since this Tumblr account has my name on it and anyone can just find it, I don’t think I can post it here. If anyone wants to read, just email me and I’ll send it to you. Yeah that’s right you have to take that step. My email is jisukcho at gmail. Also please be at least 18 cause, you know, it’s filth. Seven pages of unforgivable filth.
