I am a full time Lead QA Game Tester and sometimes artist as a hobby.
I really dream of having a booth at TCAF one day but I can't seem to start my comic.

Ever play a video game or engage in an activity where you think "this is the character portrayal I am looking for to convey how others see my original character"? I've been playing Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends and Yu Jin's character is a lot like my character Ioannas's mother. Strong, scary, independent, leader.

It's hard for some artists to "just start" with something. We're often stuck on the "how to" and "what ifs" that starting can seem like the scariest thing to accomplish. I can start a new job installing junction boxes onto solar panels. I can move to another town, another province, another country and although it takes time to adjust it is still easier than starting a story properly without confusing the audience. It's a huge problem that a great number of artists find trouble adjusting to.
Perhaps I will overcome this within the next decade or two so that I can enjoy the repercussions of my work and perhaps share it with my ailing mother before she passes away.

Sounds like the "blank page" syndrome. Creativity is some times a bitch. When I was writing scenarios for the Amilova comic I was under big pressure, had to come up with 3 pages fully storyboarded everyday... and have a big vision on "where the story is going". And make it interesting. New. Fun. And something readers will like.
:)
Pressure can be a good trigger for creativity.
But now with some distance I think that it's mostly about "having a clear idea of what you want to achieve" and then sticking to the direction you've set on the roadmap. And not worry too much, not care too much... just move on in the right direction ;).

Oh wow! Thanks a ton, Troy. I think I care too much about loosing some kind of focus that I often stop what I'm doing before I get there. I've got a clear idea on where I want things to end but every time I start I often get a lot of feedback on how things don't make sense really early on. Write what you know but I think there's creation barriers where things can make total sense to an artist but are lost on the reader. I guess from this point onwards all I can do is line up my ducks and batch post it rather than do one page at a tim which results in losing focus every time.
