Depuis plusieurs années déjà les studios Blizzard ont annoncé leur intention de faire tourner un film sur l'univers de Warcraft, non pas un film de seconde zone mais un vrai bon film qui redonne ses lettres de noblesse à l'adaptation de jeux vidéos sur grand écran.

Les infos et les non-annonces se sont succédées au fil du temps, on a évoqué à un moment le nom de Sam Raimi pour la réalisation et Blizzard a même envoyé sur les roses l'allemand Uwe Boll, connu pour ses contre-performances cinématographiques...

Mais une nouvelle est tombée ce samedi, le tournage du film débutera en 2014 et il devrait être réalisé par Duncan Jones.
