presentation of Jisuk

Jisuk Cho was born in Seoul, South Korea and is currently living in Tokyo, Japan. Somewhere in the middle of all that, Jisuk went to the School of Visual Arts in NYC and managed to pry a BFA in Animation out of the chairman's trembling, reluctant hands.

Fishbones 2

Hi everyone! I’ve put a lot of thought into it and I’m considering making another stretch goal — if the Kickstarter were to reach $8,000, I could start writing a sequel. This would require a lot of time and research (on yakuza) and I can’t promise it will be finished soon. I would probably put the entire first book up on the site and then post the sequel one chapter at a time. I would also have to put Karasu on the backburner (updating rarely), as well. What do you guys think? Would you prefer I start Fishbones 2, or just continue Karasu?

Fishbones the Novel

I put together a simple site for the novel where you can read the first twenty chapters. Kind of late, but just go with it.

ALSO, if anyone good with CSS can tell me how to add a previous and next link to the bottom of the chapter pages, please contact me!

Okay, I made a bookmark! If the Kickstarter reaches $6,000 I will include a free bookmark with every signed book and a printable file for everyone else. I hope you like it and thanks!

Some more older Fishbones art. This chart represents a time period years after the book ends and hopefully isn’t a spoiler if you haven’t read it yet.

Again, please check out the Kickstarter if you haven’t had the chance. Thanks for your support, everyone!

derpik:

I’ve finished “Fishbones” by Jisuk Cho last night and…wow. Just wow. This novel is great and I really hope it will get officially published, and that it will get more well-deserved recognition.

There’s more of my fail English rambling under the cut, but you should just go and check this novel out over here right now. But beware, don’t start reading if you have no time because it’s highly addictive and you just can’t stop reading on.

Exotic Helmet with Tengu Mask and Crows. 19th century, Japan.  Iron helmet.

Bequest of George C. Stone, 1935.  MET.  "Beginning in the sixteenth century, armorers contrived eccentrically shaped helmets (kawari kabuto), sometimes fashioned of papier-mâché mixed with lacquer, or, as here, entirely of iron. Their shapes often were inspired by images from traditional Japanese culture and mythology. Here, the face is the mythical tengu (mischievous mountain spirit) with a beak-shaped mouth, flanked on each side by embossed crows."  Text and image via MET
