Sagiri noticed each mistake in her footwork and parries the moment they happened, and mentally chastised herself for her slowness. Each angry thought was almost as much of a punishment as her master knocking her off her feet with a precise jab to the wishbone followed by a sweep of the naginata’s shaft. The young Karasu spent a few moments catching her breath and regarding the sky before Shima’s beaked face obscured the sun from her view. “You must not let yourself get discouraged, Sagiri,” her master said gently as she extended a hand down to her student. “You are learning well, child.”
“Please do not patronize me, Master,” Sagiri responded as she pulled herself to her feet, ignoring the offered hand.
LITERALLY COVERING MY FACE WITH MY HANDS AND SCREAMING INTERNALLY AS I READ THIS.
