ith a peom: Chess in Lighter Vein Bland published another poem about Vera Menchik:

miss menehik is the queen of chess,
her like has ne'er been know;
amid the fair and gentle sex
she stands out all alone.

maroezy was her tuter,but
his task is now well o'er
he say himself that a truth
she mastered all his lore.

when playing'gainst old england's best,
she never lost!and more,
a mere half point divided her's
from capablance's score!

helen of troy and boadicea
with joan of are thrown in,
were famous women and to them
miss menehik is akin.

ah, would some real poet take
miss menehik for his theme;
mere verse is quite inadequate,
though turned out by the ream.

but let that pass, there's little fear,
that she will need such aid,
her fame, we think, will rest secure,
upon the games she's played!
