It’s funny because I just read (and when I say just, I mean ten minutes ago) the first issue of Mako Finn I hadn’t had the occasion to buy before and I’m still… you know, it’s one of those comics that you keep thinking about when you close the book, or in this case the PDF.

I was very surprised by the serious aspects of the story, the documentation, the ecological feel, the general atmosphere coupled to cheesy and joyful sex scenes. I mean, the story is really serious and if you’re a bit interested in sea life and animal protection you’ll appreciate 1-the researches that were done to create a tangible universe, and place it in our universe and 2-the pleasure of a super-hero who defends such unappreciated animals.

Because yeah, sure, there’s a bit of science-fiction, super evil bad guys who want to control the world and some elements of the story will remind you of those “Mega *frightening sea creature* versus Giant *other creepy sea creature* ” movies produced by Syfy Channel and to me it’s a good point because it’s funny and creates exciting plots. But it’s really nice to see our good old regular sharks as wild animals living in their environment, not as serial killers like they are shown in most movies/comics/TV shows… it may sound like just a detail but it makes a difference to see a hero who, for once, doesn’t scream and shoot at sharks as soon as he sees them.

The fact that Mako can breathe underwater and has a special connection with sea creatures, and basically the whole atmosphere of the comic with anti-ecological villains and so many underwater scenes reminded me of the TV show “Ocean Girl”. -Take it the way you want but it’s like a HUGE compliment coming from me, I was fond of this show, would watch it every morning!-

The characters are great, sexy and with distinct and interesting personalities. They managed to slip a straight relationship without showing too much and it just adds to the realism of the story. I mean it’s a bit of a sci-fi story yet it’s strongly attached to our universe, it’s not just a bunch of hot guys shagging by the sea.

And even more surprising, while some aspects of the story are dead serious, and you feel it’s a series you’re gonna follow for the plot, the sex scenes are light-hearted, always fun, they make the perfect recreation between two more serious scenes. The characters have reactions that get close to cartoons sometimes, they seem to enjoy the sex as much as we love to watch them, they don’t look bored (because yes it doesn’t happen only in movies, sometimes in comics the boys seem like they’d rather be somewhere else) and they’re very… creative, if you see what I mean.

Well, time to stop babbling but tl;dr : Too many awesome things about this comic I’m way too enthusiastic and I recommend everyone to read it because it’s great and it’s different, different from usual porn comics and from mainstream media.
