He thinks they are the only hope. The world can hold a little bit. Karin himself told Goku he should train for a couple of years and then face Piccolo. But Goku was too hot headed.
Roshi is not: he'll explain it next pages. His logic is undeniable.

when does he explain it than? (i have read the next couple pages and no explaination) plus wouldn't training with karin be better anyway

Two pages from this one he says they'll try to get better to face off Piccolo.

Of course training with Karin would be better. But neither Yamcha nor Krillin are yet qualified to climb.
So they must train a little bit to do so
